  1. •   Acorn Assembler (£199 + VAT or £195 through Archive) comprises three
  2. programs plus a manual; Aasm which assembles files for immediate
  3. execution, ObjAsm which assembles files into Acorn’s AOF format and
  4. Linker which links AOF files.

  6. •   Allin Boxing from Dabs Press complete with its digitised grunts and
  7. groans is now available for £14.95 (£14 through Archive).

  9. •   ALPS System and Cops from Alpine Software which were mentioned last
  10. month (3.2 p 2 and 3.2 p 4) are now available through Archive for £29
  11. and £18 respectively.

  13. •   C Front (release 2) from Mitre Software now supports release 3 of
  14. Acorn ANSI C. Users can receive a free upgrade of Cfront by returning
  15. their original master disc to Mitre Software.

  17. •   Clares’ Artisan Update − the 256 colour art package ProArtisan has
  18. been reduced in price to £99.95 inc VAT (through Archive £85) and
  19. Artisan 2 is now available from stock £59.96 in VAT (through Archive
  20. £55). Existing Artisan owners can upgrade to Artisan 2 by sending just
  21. their original disc and £30 to Clares (or £28 through Archive).

  23. •   Computer Concepts Upgrades − the InterROM series along with SpellMas
  24. ter now work under RISCOS and a free upgrade is provided by Computer
  25. Concepts. Just send back your Archimedes ROMs or discs to Computer
  26. Concepts and they will upgrade them for you.

  28. •   Disc Utilities from The Data Store (see Archive 3.3 p 32) is now
  29. available through Archive for £15. Soon to be available is FontFX (£10
  30. through Archive) which uses Acorn’s Outline Font Manager to construct
  31. !Draw paths of antialiased text. The text can be drawn around various
  32. shapes e.g. straight lines, circles, arcs and can be rotated, scaled,
  33. shadowed, etc. This allows you to produce sophisticated text shapes that
  34. can be loaded into applications such as !Draw, Impression, Acorn DTP,
  35. etc.

  37. •   EType Designer is now available at £16 from Archive − design your own
  38. courses with custom obstacles, etc.

  40. •   External Dual 3.5“ drives for the A3000 are available from Morley
  41. Electronics for £125 + VAT or through Archive for £135. The plugin
  42. upgrade is easy to install and does not require a separate PSU as the
  43. drives draw their power from the A3000.

  45. •   Fireball II − Cambridge International Software will be releasing this
  46. game in a games ‘minipack’ after Christmas. The game offers digitised
  47. sounds and all sorts of extra bat’n’ball functions such as mirror,
  48. snake, laser, etc. Until then, the game can be obtained for £8.50 from
  49. the author, Simon Heather, at Mayfield House, Bunbury, Cheshire, CW6 9SY

  52. •   Fun School 2 from Database Software comes in three versions: under
  53. 6’s, 6 − 8’s and Over 8’s. Each has eight different educational games

  56. •   G.A.Herdman Educational have a whole range of educational programs,
  57. long established in the BBC/Master market, which have now been made
  58. available in completely rewritten form making full use of RISCOS. They
  59. range in price from £9.99 to £39.99 and include titles such as Household
  60. Electricity, Advanced Chemistry Assessment, Atomic Theory Plus, Advanced
  61. Organic Chemistry II, Advanced Inorganic Chemistry II, Advanced Physical
  62. Chemistry II, Periodic Table, Periodicity 1 & 2. Send them an s.a.e. for

  65. They are also working on a product called DTP_ Images which is disc full
  66. of images, specifically designed for the education market, which will
  67. supplement Acorn’s own DTP examples disc.

  69. •   Holed Out Designer − Now you can design your own golf courses and so
  70. never get tired of playing Holed Out. £18.95 from Impact or £18 through
  71. Archive.

  73. •   Jigsaw from 4mation Educational Resources (£29 + VAT) consists of 16
  74. full screen pictures (featuring artwork from Rodkey Matthews and David
  75. Cowell) which can be jumbledup into a jigsaw by a rather clever program.
  76. It offers various degrees of difficulty from great big pieces which are
  77. all orientated in the correct direction to lots of little pieces all
  78. higgledypiggledy.

  80. •   MacroAssembler from Wingpass (£47 through Archive) produces AOF files
  81. and is easy to use to create relocatable modules. This assembler has
  82. several special features which make it ideal for use with C language
  83. programs.

  85. •   Memory Upgrades for A3000 from Morley Electronics − 1M & 3M upgrades
  86. are now available (£150 and £415 plus VAT). The boards are easy to
  87. install as they plug into the standard RAM expansion sockets provided
  88. and offer full compatibility with all Acorn software. We have managed a
  89. very special deal with Morley and can offer them at £140 and £395 inc
  90. VAT and carriage.

  92. •   Memory Upgrades for A3000 − CJE Micros have a 1M upgrade for the A3000
  93. at £165 (Archive price). They are also working on a 3M upgrade and will,
  94. in due course, be offering a tradein on the 1M version.

  96. •   Memory upgrades for A305 − SPEM in Italy has produced a 2M upgrade
  97. that can be fitted into an A305 or an upgraded A305. Basically, it plugs
  98. into the sockets used by the second half Mbyte of ram on the main p.c.b.
  99. In addition it requires a couple of tracks cutting on the underside of
  100. the p.c.b. and a couple of wires soldering onto it. It is not for the
  101. fainthearted and, needless to say, fitting it will void your warranty.
  102. SPEM are offering it at a special price to Archive subscribers in Italy
  103. − Lire 750.00 or, to other European Archive subscribers, £299.99.

  105. •   MultiStore, Minerva’s long awaited fully relational database system,
  106. is now in stock. It is multitasking and handles multiple files open at
  107. once and has lots of interesting features. The price is just £299 inc
  108. VAT. (£250 through Archive)

  110. (Many of you have protested against Minerva’s policy of copy protecting
  111. their discs and some have even said that, on principle, they would not
  112. buy any of Minerva’s products. It may be of interest to you to know that
  113. MultiStore is not, as far as we can see, copy protected and it can be
  114. backedup using the standard *BackUp command.)

  116. (We have a review copy of MultiStore, but before you all write in,
  117. offering to do the review and get your free review copy, I should say
  118. that we need someone who really knows about databases and who is already
  119. familiar with System Delta Plus, Alphabase and also Pipedream 3,
  120. preferably, so that we get a better overview of what is available and
  121. how MultiStore compares with the opposition. MultiStore is an extensive
  122. package and we want to do justice to it in the review.)

  124. •   New language compiler − Cambridge Pascal is now available from Dabs
  125. Press for £79.95 (£70 through Archive). This is a comprehensive version
  126. of Pascal with many extras for use on the Archimedes, including access
  127. to star commands and SWI’s, compilation of relocatable modules, desktop
  128. compatible, full dynamic string handling, local error handling and
  129. random access files.

  131. •   The Datafile of Educational Software and Addresses is now in its sixth
  132. edition. It offers 4370 records of software titles and over 1000
  133. addresses of agencies likely to be of interest to the educational

  137. •   Worra PCB and Worra CAD have now been rewritten to take full advantage
  138. of the RISCOS window environment. The packages are available from Oak
  139. Computers and each costs £49.95 inc VAT (or £46 through Archive).

  141. •   Worra Plotter will allow HPGL compatible plotters to plot draw files.
  142. The package allows you to configure the pen speed, plotter size, pen
